Pippa Takes Another Top 20

British female Pippa Mann drove a solid and consistent second race at Silverstone to take a deserved 20th position in Sunday’s feature race. Having started in 20th place, Mann jostled for position and endured a couple of fantastic battles with fellow Brit Duncan Tappy (RC Motorsport) but in the end, after much hard work and sensational racing, Mann finished where she had begun.

The race started and Mann was held up behind a coupe of slower cars ahead. To avoid sustaining any damage, Mann backed off slightly and by the end of the first lap she had dropped down to 21st position. It was then that Mann began chasing down Tappy and the two put on a great show for the home fans. Tappy pitted leaving Mann with some space, and on lap eight the P1 Motorsport car was called into the pitlane where her crew were waiting. Mann was forced to swerve to avoid a wheel that belonged to another team, and stopped just off her marks. The team did a fantastic job in the pits but were again delayed due to a problem with the right front wheel nut. Mann got underway and re-joined, however she had lost valuable seconds.

Fortunately Mann’s in laps were quick enough to make up for any loss in the pitstop, and she slotted back in front of Tappy. For the remainder of the race, Mann did her best to stay ahead of the RC Mototsport driver, and even though she had clipped the front wing on the first lap and this was causing some handling difficulties, Mann was able to keep her position.

“It was quite nice to beat another Brit at our home race,” said Mann, “as we had a really good battle and Duncan (Tappy) was very fair. It was another tough race and again I’m pleased I do put the effort in at the gym! This wasn’t the result I was looking for here at Silverstone, but with two top 20 finishes, no DNF’s, and the team got a second place with Giedo and are still leading the championship, I cannot complain too much. However, I’ll be looking for some more points when we head to Hungary is a couple of weeks time.”
